Ryan has been playing in a Flag Football recreation league for the past few weeks and I’ve been able to hang around and get a few images. This weekend he had a couple of good catches. Check out the sequence below:

Desert Botanical Gardens
Written by Joseph on November 16th, 2011Made a trip to the Desert Botanical Gardens yesterday. David Rogers’ Big Bugs, the Garden, provides a look at insect predators, pollinators and beneficial critters. These 11 enormous, whimsical bugs have created quite a buzz! Sculptor David Rogers has carefully created these creatures from fallen or found wood, cut saplings, twigs, raw branches, twine, bark and other natural materials. The sculptures weigh from 300 to 1,200 pounds and range from seven feet to 25 feet long. I’ve captured two here:
These ants are a kick. There are three of them on the hill and they have been placed in such a way to look like an old 60’s B movie. Attack of the giant ants!

Written by Joseph on October 16th, 2011Ok, vacation is about done and it wouldn’t be complete without the afternoon at the Beach Boardwalk. Another one of those traditions if you know what I mean. So here you go…
The Mother Bear in all her glory:
Although not one of the “big” attractions such as the Giant Dipper, Lauren makes it a habit of going on the kiddie dragon ride. I think her and Ryan are hamming it up a bit:

Written by Joseph on October 14th, 2011Thursday was the Monterey Bay Aquarium for us. We had a rare opportunity to interact with the animals as an aquarist would. Our morning began with a private sea otter feeding and training session. Next we went on “morning rounds” to see where food is prepared and learn what it takes to be an aquarist. We even had a chance to feed some of the exhibit animals in the many aquariums.
I forgot the battery for my camera so these photos where made with Ryan’s point-and-shoot.
It’s become a bit of a family tradition to go for lunch at Bubba Gumps after the aquarium. Although somewhat of a tourist trap its tradition. My food senses will get over it, I’m sure. Here’s Ryan posing as Forrest. Box of chocolates anyone?
