From The Nash: A message from Lewis Nash… “I have been traveling to and performing in Japan since the mid 1980’s (over 100 visits), and I can say without question that some of the most dedicated, knowledgeable and appreciative jazz fans in the world are found there. I have never been disappointed in the level of enthusiasm exhibited by the fans, whether the venue is a festival, a club or a concert hall. I can also say from my own personal experience that artists are treated with utmost respect, kindness and consideration in Japan."
“In addition to great fans and considerate promoters, Japan is home to many very fine jazz musicians. I have been impressed by the level of musicianship I’ve found throughout the entire country, from large cities to small towns. It has been my desire to bring some of these talented musicians (many of whom have moved to the US, particularly to NYC) to Phoenix and present them at The Nash as a way of showing my appreciation to them and the Japanese culture. It’s a pleasure to partner with The Japanese Friendship Garden to present 3 of the most talented Japanese musicians I’ve had the pleasure of working with: pianist Ayako Shirasaki, bassist Noriko Ueda, and flutist Mayu Saeki. Please join us as we perform some of their original music, arrangements of jazz standards and arrangements of traditional Japanese music.”
