This was Joe Lovano’s first performance at the Outpost Performance Space in Albuquerque, NM.. Grammy Award–winning saxophonist Joe Lovano, who has been called “the tenor titan for our times” and “a full- edged jazz giant,” has toured and recorded with Herbie Hancock, Paul Motian, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, and Jim Hall, and has released nearly thirty albums for Blue Note Records. His debut project as a leader for ECM Records features Marilyn Crispell on piano and Carmen Castaldi on drums. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, Marilyn Crispell was a member of the Anthony Braxton Quartet and the Reggie Workman Ensemble for ten years and “has been one of the most deliciously unpredictable and distinctive piano improvisers in jazz for more than four decades." (The Chicago Reader). Carmen Castaldi is a master drummer whose association with Lovano goes back to their student days at Berklee College of Music.
