Celebrated for his warm tone, soaring lyricism and masterful technique, American musician Dmitri Matheny has been lauded as “one of the most emotionally expressive improvisers of his generation” (International Review of Music). First introduced to jazz audiences in the 1990s as the protégé of Art Farmer, Matheny has matured into “one of the jazz world's most talented horn players” (San Francisco Chronicle).

Flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny has been lauded by the International Review of Music as “one of the most emotionally expressive improvisers of his generation.”

An honors graduate of the Berklee College of Music, he vaulted onto the jazz scene in the 1990s as the protégé of jazz flugelhorn master, Art Farmer, and has since garnered critical acclaim and a loyal international following. He has released eleven albums and tours extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. At the Outpost Performance Space he featured Phoenix-based vocalist Holly Pyle in a program highlighting the music of Burt Bacharach. Holly Pyle, who is celebrated for her “soulfully graceful, liquid-like voice” (Phoenix New Times), started out as an opera major before studying jazz and psychology at Northern Arizona University. She has become one of the most popular vocalists in the Phoenix area, performing with leading jazz groups, touring with the progressive soul-pop band House of Stairs, and appearing regularly as a solo a-cappella act.

On the evening along with Matheny and Pyle, was Santa Fe’s own Bert Dalton - piano; Andy Zadrozny - bass, and John Trentacosta - drums.
