Javon Jackson on tenor saxaphone spent an intimate evening with three all-star musicians who delighted everyone with a variety of tunes associated with Duke, Dizzy, Trane, plus some original material by members of this prestigious quartet. The event took place in an elegant high-rise condo overlooking the Phoenix Japanese Friendship Garden in Phoenix, AZ.
Javon Jackson is a gifted improviser with a warm tone and style that straddles aggressive, acoustic post-bop and funky soul-jazz. He grew up in Cleveland and Denver and studied at Berklee. Jackson was with the last version of the Jazz Messengers (1987-1990) and, after Art Blakey’s death, he worked with the Harper Brothers, Benny Green, Freddie Hubbard, and Elvin Jones.
On the day: Javon Jackson - saxophone, George Cables - piano, David Williams - bass, and Lewis Nash - drums.
