Arizona pianist Zack Gillespie and his quartet celebrated contemporary Blue Note Jazz artists with arrangements of music by the likes of Norah Jones, Ambrose Akinmusire, Aaron Parks, Brian Blade, Terence Blanchard, and Robert Glasper.
Though Blue Note Records is celebrating its 80th birthday and is known universally for its iconic catalog of hard bop and mainstream jazz artists, Blue Note has always been a reliable source for forward-thinking listeners. As the label enters its ninth decade, there seems to be no shortage of Blue Note artists keeping jazz relevant in the 21st Century, shaping and re-shaping it for longtime listeners and newcomers alike.
Whether or not you are familiar with these newer artists, this show at The Nash Jazz Club treated listeners to a great selection of contemporary Blue Note jazz music, performed by some of our most accomplished contemporary jazz musicians.
