The Lewis Nash All-Star Quintet

It was fitting that The Nash Jazz Club celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a return engagement of namesake Lewis Nash’s own long-standing quintet of musical soulmates. As an ensemble, these musicians created the quintessential jazz quintet sound as they played both familiar jazz standards and exciting original tunes for the anniversary celebration. On the evening:

Power Trio with Everette Harp

The aptly named “Power Trio” brought together four of Arizona’s most accomplished musical powers at The Nash Jazz Club. Mike Kocour - organ, Stan Sorenson - guitar, Lewis Nash on drums and special guest Grammy nominated saxophonist Everette Harp.

Everette Harp began playing the piano as a toddler and at the age of 4 he discovered the saxophone. As his father was a minister and his mother a pianist/organist, his first love was gospel music. He discovered Jazz in high school and later he studied music. For a time, he played in local Houston bands, but moved to Los Angeles in 1988. Soon he toured with Teena Marie and Anita Baker. In 1990, George Duke, Harps idol and later his friend and mentor, signed him to a production deal, and another two years later a record deal followed.

In addition to being the Director of Jazz Studies at ASU, Mike Kocour has decades of performing and recording experience with five critically acclaimed CDs. Arguably the face (and voice) of jazz guitar in Phoenix, Stan Sorenson has performed at every major venue, and with pretty much every notable musician, during his successful career. The namesake of The Nash, Lewis Nash was called “Jazz’s Most Valuable Player” by Modern Drummer magazine with award-winning projects with some of the immortals of the jazz world.
